HOLYOKE: Lopes Duarte, age 83, of Holyoke, died on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Holyoke Medical Center. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Antonio and Anna (DaSilva) Duarte and was educated in Portugal. He returned to Holyoke many years ago and was a retired 25 year employee of Uniroyal in Chicopee. Lopes was a longtime communicant of Holy Cross Church and a member of the Portuguese American Club of Holyoke. He was the widower of Celeste (Lopes) Duarte who died in 2004. He is survived by a son, Antonio Duarte of Holyoke, a grandson John Duarte of Revere, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Joaquim Duarte. The funeral will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass in Our Lady of the Cross Church at 10:00. Burial will follow at Saint Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Feb. 27th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's disease Foundation, 710 West 168th Street, New York NY 10032 or to American Heart Assn., 54C Wayside Ave. West Springfield MA 01089
