FEEDING HILLS: David M. Kraus, age 49, of Feeding Hills, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and in the arms of his devoted wife, Kathryn, at Baystate Medical Center on January 12, 2013. David was born on August 10, 1963 to Marion (Martin) Kraus of and the late Lawrence Kraus. After high school, David enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Persian Gulf aboard the USS LaSalle and the USS Connole. After his honorable discharge, David enrolled at S.T.C.C., graduating with an associate's degree in Television Production Science. David was an award winning news photographer for WWLP-TV in Springfield and WVIT-TV in Hartford CT. After retiring from television, David began hosting the internet podcast "Nine Panel Nerds." In recent years, David was an internet DJ on Atomicradio.us, sharing his love for alternative music with his listeners. David's love for music was only surpassed by his love for monster movies and comic books. David's DVD collection was extensive and unique. His favorites were the classis Universal monsters and Godzilla. When David wasn't watching Kaiju films, he could be found at his second home- "A Hero's Legacy Comics and Collectibles" with his comic book family in Manchester CT. David's "gentle giant" persona was only transformed when he joined his XBOX friends for a competitive campaign in Call of Duty. David often combined his love of travel in history-visiting WW II's Normandy Beach and several Civil War sites, including Gettysburg. It was on "Little Round Top" that David proposed to his soulmate, Kathryn. They were married Halloween 2010 and were seldom seen apart. Though challenged by health issues his entire life, David never felt sorry for himself, and lived each day to its fullest. His many doctors and nurses would say that David had the most positive outlook on life. David's family would like to thank the entire nursing staff at Brigham and Women's Shapiro Cardiovascular Center for making David and Kathy feel not so far from home during their long stay in Boston. David leaves his wife and best friend, Kathryn (O'Leary) Kraus, his mother, Marion, of Westfield, his sister, Diane Kraus of Westfield, his sister Karen Moussette and her husband Wayne of Russell, his cherished nieces and nephew; Sara Moussette and her fiancé James DiPinto, Marissa Moussette, and Nick Bechen, with whom he had a great and loving relationship. David also leaves his mother and father-in-law Patricia and James O'Leary. David was predeceased by his father, Lawrence in 1997. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street in Holyoke. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dakin Animal Shelter, 171 Union St. Springfield MA 01105.
