Robert M. "Pooch" Minkler, 67, of Holyoke, died Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Holyoke Soldier's Home surrounded by his family. Pooch was born in Holyoke, son of the late Francis X. and Ann (Axton) Minkler, was a graduate of Holyoke Catholic High School and received his LPN license from Dean Vocational High School. He served with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and later worked at the Holyoke Soldiers Home as an LPN for many years. Pooch is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen M. (Monaghan) Minkler; his sister, Ann Ayotte and her husband Ted, of NH; a brother, John Minkler of Chicopee; two sisters-in-law, Noreen Minkler of Holyoke and Maureen Monaghan and her daughter Maura, of Holyoke. He also leaves his best friends, Kathy Kennedy and Judy and Phil Drew, all of Holyoke and many nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends, as well as his beloved Yorkie, "Mickey the Moose". Besides his parents, Pooch was predeceased by his brothers, Tommy and Charlie and his lifelong friend, Bobby Kennedy. A Funeral Home Service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street. A calling hour will be held prior to the service from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
