Mary Adele "Della" (Tonelli) Kelly, from South Hadley, entered into eternal rest and peace on Tuesday, March 21, 2017. Born in Springfield on April 8, 1931, she was a resident of Chicopee for 60 years, before moving to South Hadley, she was a person dedicated to her family of 6 children, 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Della graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1951 and worked as a Registered Nurse at Mercy Hospital in ICU/CCU as well as doing private duty nursing and Home Care Nursing. In addition to her work as a RN, she also enjoyed selling CopperCraft and Avon Products. After her children were grown, she returned to school and received an Associate degree from Holyoke Community College and a Bachelors Degree from Elms College. As an avid gardener, she could often be found outside in her gardens, weeding, transplanting or harvesting vegetables. She was more than willing to share her knowledge and plants with anyone who shared her interest. Della also had a passion for orchids and enjoyed being a member of the Amherst Orchid Society. When her children were younger and active in dance, she was on the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Valley Regional Ballet Company. Della is survived by her second husband, John "Jack" Kelly of South Hadley and predeceased by her first husband Jean "John" Houle of Holyoke. She was also predeceased by her great grandson Dylan of Chicopee and her brother, Mario "Marty" Tonelli of South Hadley. She leaves her six children: John Houle and Denise Houle-Kukahiko of Chicopee, Katherine Houle of Winston-Salem, NC, Dr. James Houle of Boca Raton, FL, Patrice Brault of Westfield and Anna Kelly-Niziolek of South Hadley. Della also leaves her ten grandchildren: Amy Kukahiko-Chapdelaine, Julie Micheli, John Kukahiko, Adam Niziolek, Robert Brault, Jacqueline Brault, Camille Houle, Lauren Houle, Angela Tourville and Shannon Burke. She also leaves her nine great grandchildren: Jared, Lily, Bryn, Nick,Tyler, Abigail, Jace, Lily Micheli, and Mia. She also leaves behind her two longterm friends: Mary Lou Stein, of Holyoke, who graduated Nursing school with her and Johanna LaRose, who shared her passion for gardening. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 11:00am in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton St. Holyoke. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. A calling hour will be held Saturday from 10:00am to 11:00am. Donations can be made, in her name, to the Amherst Orchid Society.
