HOLYOKE: Madelyn O. (LeTellier) Lempke, 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 23rd, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Isidore and Olive (St. Jean) LeTellier. She attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Grammar School and Holyoke High School, where she met her high school sweetheart, Richard H. Lempke. She graduated from The Cooley Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed as a registered nurse at Holyoke Hospital and then as the charge nurse at Buckley Nursing Retirement Home for over 18 years. A devout Catholic she was a communicant of St. Jerome Church. She was formerly a member of the Holyoke Junior Chamber of Commerce Wives, Past President of the St. Gerard Circle, and a member of the Holyoke Golden Seniors. She volunteered at the South Hadley Council of Aging, Visiting Nurses Association, and the Registry of Voters in Chicopee. She was an avid Red Sox fan, who would never miss watching a game with her husband and was ecstatic when they won three world series. She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Richard H. Lempke. Also, her children, Lynette Gubala and her husband Paul of Holyoke, Robin Westcott of Phoenix, Arizona, Richard Lempke and his wife Angela of Russell, Michael Lempke and his wife Kathy of Holyoke, Kathy Wildman of Holyoke, Karen Bernier and her husband G. Philip of Tampa, Florida, Nadine Lempke and her fiancée Bill Rohan of Holyoke, Steven Lempke of Granby, and her son-in-law Ricardo Braxton of Detroit, Michigan. She leaves 25 cherished grandchildren, Matt, Mark and Melanie, Lauren and Heather, Nadja, Linda, Stefanie and Tina, Morgan, Amber and Victoria, Jim and Kurt, Zachary and Adam, Kimberlee, Brittany and Emily, Jacob, Nicholas, Megan and Max, and Madison and Mackenzie. She also leaves behind 15 great grandchildren and her two sisters, Gloria LeTellier and Jeanne O'Connell and her husband John, her sister-in-law, Shirley LeTellier and many loving nieces and nephews. Lyn had many wonderful friends through the years that brought her so much happiness. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved daughter Carrie Braxton and son-in-law Scott Westcott, her sister Irene Kelly and her husband John and her brothers Alcide, Ronald and George LeTellier. She brought love and happiness to all our lives! A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday at 9:30am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton St. Holyoke, followed by Mass in St. Jerome Church at 10:30am. Burial will be held in St. Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Madelyn can be made to the charity of one's choice.
