Louisa O'Brien Guard, 63, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family and loved ones, on December 27, 2016. She was born on April 17, 1953, daughter of the late Charles J. and Mary L. (Flynn) O'Brien. Wesa is survived by her husband of 32 years, William Guard, of Holyoke, and one son, Lenny Jacobson, of Los Angeles, CA. She was a stepmother to Heather Hammer (Chris) and Jeffrey Guard (Melanie) of Wilmington, NC, and grandmother to Max and Lila Hammer. Wesa leaves behind 10 brothers and sisters: Darby (Lynda) O'Brien, Elizabeth F. (Robert) Maloney, Mary L. (Michael) Karukin, Margaret M. (Peter) Magri, Charles J. (Lianne) O'Brien, Jr., Jonathan O'Brien, David R. (Sokha) O'Brien, Alicia F. (Jack) Magri, Andrew L. (Lisa) O'Brien and Jennifer A. McCarthy. She was also a favorite aunt, great-aunt and sister-in-law to many in the extended family. The loss to her family is enormous because of her role as a caretaker. She had a fierce loyalty to her brothers and sisters. If anyone had anything to say about an O'Brien, they'd be hearing from Wesa. She was very proud of her son Lenny, a successful actor in TV shows such as Nurse Jackie and Frequency. Wesa worked with her family at the Mt. Tom Ski Area and ran the food service operations at the Empire One Racquetball Club and the Orchards Golf Course. She later founded Motormouth's, a South Hadley copy shop. The shop was named by her brother Darby because of Wesa's ability to talk and talk. Her son Lenny and nephew Joe, along with Bobby Clements, helped her run the store and are generally credited with tanking the business. Wesa battled cancer over the past two years with a spirit and courage that was inspiring to everyone. She never quit and she maintained her Irish sense of humor until the very end. Calling hours will be Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 4-7:00pm at Barry Farrell's Funeral Home in Holyoke. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, December 30, 2016 at 10am at Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke. Burial will follow at St. Jerome's Cemetery in Holyoke. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the D'Amour Cancer Center at Baystate Medical Center or the Holyoke YMCA. The family would like to express its thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the D'Amour Cancer Center.
