HOLYOKE - John F. Gaughan, 77 of Holyoke, passed away on October14, 2016. He was a lifelong resident of Holyoke and communicant of Blessed Sacrament Parish. Predeceased by his parents John and Helen (Long) Gaughan, he was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament, Sacred Heart High School, and Holyoke Community College. John worked for many years as a tower crane operator for Daniel O'Connell's Sons Construction where he built the Baystate West / Tower Square building in downtown Springfield, Ma. John also worked for the Holyoke Gas and Electric for 32 years and retired as a foreman in the Gas division. He formerly served as the President of the HG&E guild union. John is survived by his wife Barbara (Boisjolie) Gaughan, three children, Joanne and her husband Scott Beliveau of West Springfield, Daniel and Barbara of Holyoke, and John and his wife Kimberly of Holyoke; five grandchildren, Amy and her husband Jeff Stanek, Chad and his wife Kelsey; Rachel, Lauren, and Katie Beliveau and one great grandson Nolan Stanek. John was a quick witted, proud, and hardworking man who loved spending time with his family and especially loved attending games, recitals, and any event where he could watch his grandchildren. The funeral will be held Wednesday, October 19th at 9:00 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Sacrament Church at 10:00. Burial will be in Saint Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Saint Joseph Retirement Fund, 577 Carew Street. Springfield MA 01104.
