HOLYOKE: Hazel D. (Hanson) Baker, age 93, of Holyoke, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at her home. She was born in South Hadley, daughter of the late Percy and Ella (Martin) Hanson and was educated in Holyoke Schools, and graduated from Holyoke High School. Hazel travelled the world and loved her summer vacations at Hampton Beach. She started skiing in her 40's and taught her children to ski as well. Hazel is survived by her children, Art and his wife Kathy, Jack and his wife Lynn, Gary and his wife Lee, Jill (Baker) Baush and her husband Tom; 6 grandchildren, Adam and Ross Baker, Jennifer Richard, Matt, Jay and Andrea Baker; 5 great grandchildren, Ava, Bradley, Brian, Claire and Tristin as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Hazel was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Baker, who died in 1999; her brother, Ralph Hanson, who was killed serving his country during World War II; and a sister, Ellen E. (Hanson) Murphy in 2007. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 22nd from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street. Burial will be private. The family would like to thank all of the personnel at Loomis House and Beacon Hospice for their support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Hazel to Loomis House, 298 Jarvis Avenue, Holyoke. MA 01040.
