Edward J. Clancy, Jr., age 71, of Holyoke passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Edward J. and Dorothy A. (Dunn) Clancy and was a graduate of Holyoke Catholic High School, Holyoke Community College, UMass Amherst, and received his Master's Degree in History from the University of Minnesota. Ned taught history for 37 years at Chicopee Comprehensive High School, retiring in 2007. He also reviewed textbooks for Harcourt Brace Jovanovich. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Elder Council 69 in Chicopee, The Massachusetts Teachers Association, and was a former member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Ned was a communicant of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a past president of the parish council. He was the widower of Patrice M. (Craven) Clancy, who died in 1984. Ned is survived by two sons, Edward S. Clancy of Holyoke and Patrick J. Clancy and his wife Kelly of Holyoke, a brother-in-law, Ernie Craven and his wife Moira; four sisters-in-law, Debbie (Craven) Menard, Annie (Craven) Pancione and her husband Steve, Maria (Craven) Sypek and her husband Mike and MaryAnn Craven and many cousins from the Dunn and McGiverin families. Ned was predeceased by a brother-in-law, James Craven. The funeral will be held Monday at 9:00 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Church, 435 Maple Street. Burial will be in St. Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ned to the American Cancer Society , 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.
