HOLYOKE: Charlotte M. (Musante) Ruszczyk was born on December 24, 1929, as the only child to Amedeo and Jeanne (Biehler) Musante in Holyoke, passed away on February 4, 2017 after a courageous struggle with COPD with loving family by her side at the Mount St. Vincent Care Center. Charlotte's husband Edward pre-deceased her on November 9, 2012. She is survived by her daughter Donna Shook and her husband Philip of Corpus Christi, TX and children Timothy, Andrea Panter (Richard), Daniel, & Rachel Felleisen (Christopher) all living in Texas; her son Mark and his wife Onita (Bazauri) and daughters Katya & Alana of Lake Worth, FL; her son David and his wife Janice (Hamel) and children Theresa & Andrew of Florence, MA; her daughter Ann and her husband (Allen) Ray Hallenbeck and children CarleeAnne, Adam, & Nicholas of Charlemont, MA; her daughter Laura and her husband Gerald (Jaj) Gilbert and their sons Jack & Patrick of Holyoke, MA.
She was pre-deceased by her son, Richard who died on July 9, 1971; her sister in-laws Sophia Kosiba, Genevieve Haryasz, Janina Dunleavy, Cecile Fleury, Stephanie Togneri, Wanda Mengel, and Helen Normand; and her brother in-laws John, Stanley, Chester, and Joseph Ruszczyk. Her sister in-law Olga (Okolita) Ruszczyk passed the following day. She is survived by her brother in-law Leonard Mengel, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews and their extended families. A Chicopee High School graduate, Charlotte went on to become a hairdresser operating The Beauty Box in Holyoke with her Aunt Josephine Krawczynski. In addition to her love for hairdressing, she was very active in the Boy Scouts of America, Pioneer Valley Council, Mt. Tom District Pack 666 where she was a Den Mother for many years and bestowed the 'Award of Merit' in 1976. She was a dedicated volunteer of Holy Family Parish and Kate's Kitchen. An avid gardener, Charlotte spent hours tending to her vegetables and canning her harvest. Very creative and artistic, she took pride in designing the family home and loved cooking, playing cards or bingo, and would stop on a dime given the opportunity to go the Foxwoods! But, Charlotte's most joy came from her cherished grandchildren and she was thrilled about expecting her first great-grandchild! Our family extends a special and most sincere "thank you" to all those who blessed Charlotte with their tender loving care while at the Loomis House, Baystate Medical Center, the Hospice Life Care group from the Holyoke VNA, and Mount St. Vincent, especially the dedicated staff in the St. Anne's North wing. Additionally, we warmly thank the in-home care providers Yoli & Roy for their tireless and faithful service as well as acknowledge our thoughtfully generous Blueberry Hill neighbors. We are eternally grateful to each of you for the many blessings bestowed upon our matriarch. The Funeral will be held Saturday, February 25th, from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, South Hadley. Calling hours will precede the funeral from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to Blessed Sacrament Parish, 1945 Northampton Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
